Description
Start your worm bin from the ground up with biologically active bedding with cocoons from established Red Wiggler (Eisenia fetida) breeder bins.
This is not just cocoons. This is a living starter system designed to help your bin establish naturally and successfully.
What You’re Getting
Each portion is harvested directly from active breeder bins and includes a natural mix of:
- worm cocoons (at various stages)
- beneficial microbes
- worm castings
- partially broken-down organic bedding
- and may include freshly hatched baby worms
This combination helps create a more stable, forgiving environment, especially for beginners.
Important About Cocoons
This product is sold as a volume-based cocoon bedding mix, not by individual cocoon count.
Cocoons are naturally unevenly distributed and tend to cluster within bedding. Because of this, each portion will vary. Every scoop is taken from cocoon-rich material to provide a healthy and active start.
Why This Works So Well
- Includes the biology worms need to thrive
- May contain already hatched baby worms (faster start)
- More natural and forgiving than isolated cocoons
- Helps establish a balanced bin environment from the beginning
Available Options
-
1 Cup Cocoon Bedding (Starter) – Best for beginners
-
2 Cups Cocoon Bedding (Booster) – Faster establishment
-
4 Cups Cocoon Bedding (Bin Starter) – Start a full bin
-
8 Cups Cocoon Bedding (Full Nursery) – Large nursery or faster population growth
What to Expect
- Hatching typically begins within 2–4 weeks
- Baby worms are tiny at first and grow over time
- Worms reach breeding age in about 2–3 months
- Population increases gradually as cocoons hatch
Note
Cocoon bedding contains cocoons of various ages and may include baby worms at different stages. Because cocoons naturally cluster, distribution will vary between portions. This is a normal part of working with a living system.
