Size Options & What They Mean
Both sizes are ideal for shoebox bins and 6–6.5 qt totes.
The difference is simply how many worms you’re starting with.
Worms are sold by weight, not by individual count.

4 oz Starter Colony
Roughly one adult handful of worms. A great starting size that allows worms to settle in and establish comfortably.

8 oz Starter Colony
Roughly two adult handfuls of worms. The same setup as 4 oz, just more worms from the start for quicker population and casting production.
Handfuls are provided as a visual reference only. Exact worm count will vary based on worm size and age.
